In SGRE we put the safety and wellbeing of the technician first and maintaining the balance between risk level and cost through application of the hierarchy of controls helps ensure that SGRE continues to maintain our social license to operate. As a Safety Engineer you will contribute to this by being responsible for preventive safety-in-design-work, compliance work, and for facilitating risk assessment and performing review on safety-critical work instructions.

How to contribute to our vision

Documentation and Safety in Design is a team of 15 people - consisting of process and safety engineers. The team is responsible for creating and maintaining work instructions that describe assembly, installation, and commissioning procedures in line with design and specific on-site practice. The team is also responsible for creating risk assessment on work instructions to ensure that all risks are incorporated and appropriately reflected in work instructions. The team collaborates closely with a sister team in Bangalore, India.

Your tasks as a Safety Engineer will include

  • Involvement in the design process form the  requirements definition phase until  final use of the product ensuring the product is designed to be safe in line with hierarchy of control; ensuring compliance with relevant legislation, codes and standards; reviewing product designs for safety and against the specification; supporting design engineers in design risk assessment, EHSR aspects, residual risk evaluation among others. Thereby assuring safety-in-design
  • facilitating risk assessment on new construction processes and on tasks described in work instructions
  • reviewing high-risk maintenance manuals and safety-critical work instructions
  • Knowledge sharing and competence upgrade of the documentation team in relation to the preventive safety-in-design-work, compliance work, safety awareness-training and local legal requirements
  • supporting Line Management in managing corrective and preventive Health and Safety incidents
  • developing standardized safety approaches to baseline construction data as well as strategies to continuously improve our safety standards
  • providing knowledge sharing sessions to the engineering department

What you need to make a difference

Passion for renewable energy and a sense for the importance to lead the change.

In this role, you should preferably hold a Degree/Master in safety engineering and/or other relevant engineering disciplines. Alternatively, you could also hold a technical education at craftsman or bachelor qualification level. If you have gained your qualifications in other ways, we’d also like to hear from you.

As a person you are a team player with good cooperation skills. You take ownership of your projects, are self-motivated, have drive and are able to plan your own tasks and create the needed results. Furthermore, you are an effective communicator and can cooperate across a global organization in fluent written and spoken English.

You possess a detailed understanding of risk assessment methodologies i.e. HAZID, HAZOP, FMEA together with significant experience in the offshore area preferable WTG or O&G. You have knowledge of risk management through the ALARP principles and being able to make cost benefit analysis in relation to risk.

Hands on experience in heavy industry, preferable from work in wind turbines including knowledge of Health and Safety standards and Regulations, knowledge of design standards and Regulations (e.g. Machinery Directive), is also desirable.
