[Not translated in selected language] We are looking for our new Research Scientist for a permanent position in our expanding Biochemical Analysis Department within R&D in Hørsholm, Denmark.

The team for you to join
You will join the Biochemical Analysis Department where the focus is to develop and implement chemical methods and new technology as well as perform biochemical analyses for culture and product performance. You will become part of a busy department and will work in projects with partners throughout R&D, where we aim for scientific excellence, and provide high value to our customers.

As a company Chr. Hansen is a world leader within manufacturing of microbial culture and enzyme-based products for the food and health & nutrition industries. Biochemical Analysis is part of Analytical Solutions, where we play a central role in projects and activities related to development of new products, including process development and their application.

What would your role look like?
As our new Research Scientist, your role will involve scientific work related to different tasks and a range of stakeholders. Your daily work will be a combination of both participating in different projects and working hands on in the laboratory developing methods/trouble shooting, including data analysis and visualization of the results.

You role will be in the area of method development for quantification and identification of small primary and secondary metabolites. Your tasks will include:

  • Development of qualitative and quantitative methods by HPLC-UV, LC-MS, LC-MS/MS, and LC-high resolution-MS and to support new product development, including process screening and characterization of new products
  • Optimize sample extraction procedures for various complex matrices e.g. dairy, bacterial fermentations and plant material
  • Assist with coordination between internal stakeholders and external commercial labs
  • Implementation and daily responsibility of relevant equipment
  • Use advanced data analysis tools to extract information from the data generated in order to visualize and communicate results
  • Coordinate with other departments and communicate the results generated within different projects to ensure alignment of interpretation of results and best experimental praxis.

Who are we looking for?
Preferentially you hold a PhD/Post doc or else you have similar qualifications within analytical chemistry, especially hands on experience with instrument troubleshooting, method development within quantitative analysis by chromatography and mass spectrometry, as well as advanced data-analysis. You have experience with biological systems, fermentation, microbial and/or food chemistry and with development of sample preparation methods for complex biological samples. This combined with experience with detection and quantification of metabolites produced by microorganisms makes you the ideal candidate.

Further, you preferably have/are:

  • Experience in sample purification of complex matrices and with capillary electrophoresis is an advantage
  • Strong hands on experience within tandem mass spectrometry and/or high resolution mass spectrometry, including structure elucidation.
  • Strong IT skills including of programming skill for data-analysis
  • Highly self-motivated as well as a proven team player with outstanding communication and networking skills

It is also essential that you are fluent in both spoken and written English.
