Would you like to work on a meaningful project that lets you see the direct impact of your work? We're looking for a Project Coordinator with a passion for making a difference and an interest in the job market integration of internationals facing difficult circumstances in Denmark
HackYourFuture (HYF) is a non-profit organization that aims to train people with high potential, but limited opportunities (refugees, asylum seekers, and other disadvantaged groups), to become web developers and empower them by opening the doors to a very in-demand job market. We offer participants access to a free, 8-month-long coding boot camp focussed on front-end web development. We are active in The Netherlands, Denmark, and Belgium.
Our program started as a grassroots initiative and has, since 2017, helped close to 200 people enter the Danish IT industry. Our graduates now work anywhere from small startups to international companies like LEGO, Mærsk, Novo Nordisk, Trustpilot, Workday, and Visma. We're not a web developer factory, though - we celebrate the power of a strong learning community and making friends along the way. If this resonates with you - keep reading! :)
The position:
In 2021, we launched a pilot project in Aarhus to test if our concept could succeed outside of Copenhagen - the answer was a resounding "Yes!". Since then, we have completed 2 courses, with a 3rd starting in October 2023.
We are now looking for a part-time "Project Coordinator" to help run our volunteer-powered boot camp in Aarhus. You will be working closely with the Aarhus Project Manager, a small team of colleagues in Copenhagen, and our dedicated volunteer mentors.
The role is suitable for a student, an entry-level professional, or as a part-time role for more experienced professionals. The role is part-time, with 22.5-30 hours/week (including most Sundays). In February 2024, there will be an opportunity to transition to a full-time (37.5 hours) position.
Tasks:
- Be the main responsible for our coding boot camp activities in Aarhus
- Plan, and attend, most Sunday sessions taking place at various locations in Aarhus.
- Book volunteer mentors to teach Sunday sessions and review students' homework submissions.
- Keep track of participants' attendance and homework submissions and help improve our existing tracking systems.
- Oversee the general well-being of boot camp participants and support them with referrals to other helpful organizations and resources.
- Organize events for participants and the Aarhus volunteer community, including social events, company visits, networking events, etc..
- Manage participant's transportation to and from classes (order train tickets for asylum seekers, keep track of HYFs Rejsekort, etc.).
- Manage computers for students and secure new laptop donations as needed.
- We're a small (but dedicated!) team, so we expect everyone to assist in ad hoc tasks across the organization - fx. helping write up a report for a partner company or supporting the team in CPH in organizing a community event.
Requirements:- You have relevant life experience, professional experience, or educational background. Expand on this in your motivational letter.
- You have a desire to work in an intercultural environment and a genuine interest in helping newcomers to Denmark succeed.
- Working with people energizes you!
- You're a great communicator and can talk to anyone - from municipality employees to hardcore tech nerds (not that they are mutually exclusive ;) ).
- You proactively tackle challenges and are comfortable handling responsibility.
- You live in or near Aarhus and can work at our office at least 2 days/week.
- You can work at least three Sundays per month during the 8-month period where the boot camp takes place, which is usually from October to July.
- Strong written and spoken English skills, as well as basic Danish skills.
- Most of our work takes place in GSuite, Slack, Trello, Basecamp, Zoom, Linkedin, and GitHub - you should be able to navigate at least a few of these confidently and/or be willing to learn.
Plus:- Knowledge of the Danish immigration & integration system.
- You have a network in the Danish IT Industry.
- Experience with working in a small team.
- Strong written and spoken Danish skills.
- Experience with management of volunteers.
- Knowledge/interest in web development & technology in general.
What we offer:- Work that makes a tangible difference in people's lives!
- A (really nice!) office space in Viby, Aarhus.
- Lunch and coffee every day you are in the office.
- Experience working in a non-profit organization and the opportunity to quickly take on responsibility.
- An opportunity to build/grow your network within social entrepreneurship, humanitarian work, and tech.
- A company laptop can be provided.
? Application process:
- Click Apply and submit a tailored CV & a short motivational letter in English.
- Upload both in 1 PDF file under "Resume".
- We will review applicants and get back to you within 7 working days.
- If you are shortlisted for the position, you will receive a small task to complete, followed by an in-person interview.
- We have limited resources and can only give rejection-specific feedback to rejected applicants after the interview.
Deadline & Start Date:- The deadline is Monday, September 4th, 2023.
- We will be inviting shortlisted candidates for a 1. interview that will take place after the deadline has passed.
- We're hoping to fill the position as soon as possible.
