The Research Unit of Rheumatology, Department of Regional Health Research (IRS), University of Southern Denmark (SDU) invites applications for a position as postdoc in psychological rehabilitation within rheumatology to be filled as soon as possible. 

The position combines research and clinical work, and holds 50% for research (IRS, SDU) and 50 % for clinical work with patients. The position is limited to three years with possibility of extension for one year.   

The Research Unit in Rheumatology is led by professor Kim Hørslev-Petersen, DMSc, and consists of three professors, two associate professors, one senior researcher, three PhD students, three research assistants, a nurse and a secretary. The hospital and the research unit hold a long record of user involvement in clinical practice as well as of development and research. 

Research tasks

The position aims to develop research regarding psychological rehabilitation within rheumatology. The applicant will become part of the research group in rheumatology rehabilitation, which is an integrated part of the research unit in rheumatology research at the Danish Hospital for Rheumatic Diseases. The research unit has established a close collaboration with the Department of Psychology, University of Southern Denmark, professor Kirsten Kaya Roessler and associate professor, Tonny Elmose Andersen. 

The position will to a limited extent provide the possibility for teaching and supervision of master students in psychology. The programme for university teaching at SDU can be offered as part of the position, if wanted by the candidate. 

The applicant will mainly be working in close collaboration with the two professors in rheumatology rehabilitation, Ann Bremander and Jette Primdahl, and will refer to the head of research, professor Kim Hørslev-Petersen.  

A genuine interest in initiation and dissemination of research is a condition for the position.

The clinical position

The clinical part of the position refers to executive consultant Vibeke Ringsdal and aims to develop new treatment options for the management of pain, fatigue and living with a chronic disease, in close collaboration with the multidisciplinary team at the hospital. 

In addition, training and supervision of the clinical staff (rheumatologists, physicians, nurses, nurse assistants, physical therapists, occupational therapists, social worker and dietician), and clinical consultations (e.g. to identify anxiety or depression) with patients will be part of the job.

The applicant will have the possibility of starting an authorization process as a psychologist. The supervision will be led by associate professor Tonny Elmose Andersen and professor Kirsten Kaya Roessler. 

The research and the clinical tasks are mainly located at the Danish Hospital for Rheumatic Diseases in Sønderborg, but a flexible arrangement regarding workplace is possible. 

Required qualifications

The successful candidate will be required to document:

  • ·    A master and a PhD degree in psychology
  • ·    Interest in clinical and client-centred work
  • ·    Interest in multidisciplinary cooperation
  • ·    Good oral, written and verbal communication skills in Danish, and good skills in English communication
