The Novo Nordisk Foundation Center for Basic Metabolic Research

We are looking for a highly motivated and independent Platform Manager to develop and manage the rodent in vivo experimental platform for the Center to commence as soon as possible.

Our research
The Novo Nordisk Foundation Center for Basic Metabolic Research (CBMR) was established in 2010 to conduct fundamental research on metabolism. It is part of the Faculty of Health and Medical Sciences, University of Copenhagen. The Center has around 200 employees from all over the world. We moved into new laboratories, offices, and meeting rooms in the Maersk Tower in 2017. You can read more about us at http://cbmr.ku.dk.

In order to strengthen the infrastructure, CBMR is developing and expanding a number of facilities including the Rodent Metabolic Phenotyping Platform (RMPP); https://cbmr.ku.dk/facilities/rodent-metabolic-phenotyping/. RMPP is a rodent in vivo metabolic phenotyping unit that serves to support Center scientists in performing high quality in vivo studies. We are currently upscaling and developing RMPP by expanding the team, developing the facilities, and broadening the operations and activities in order to ensure access to state-of-the-art equipment, training programs, experimental expertise etc.

Your job
The Platform Manager will be coordinating a team of 4-5 specialists and technicians, and will be playing an important role in establishing the team.

The Platform Manager will be working with guidance from a Steering Group of key platform scientists and have close interactions with Center scientists, students, and stakeholders.

The job spans over people, project, and facility management along with a supporting role in study design, experimental procedures, and data analysis and interpretation. The balance of the tasks will depend on the profile of the candidate.

Tasks

  • Team management
  • Coordination, prioritization and day-to-day planning of projects and tasks
  • Ensure good communication and collaboration between platform staff, animal caretakers, platform users, service collaborators, and leadership
  • Develop and implement training programs and provide support and training to researchers, technicians, and students on the use of equipment and experimental procedures
  • Ensure a high level of quality control and standardization of procedures
  • Implement/optimize facility management procedures and software solutions including equipment/service booking systems, usage tracking, data management solutions, user satisfaction surveys, emergency plans for equipment breakdown
  • Optimize the physical frames and usage of the current facility
  • Preparation and implementation of short and long-term expansion and development plans for the facility
  • Obtain/extend animal licenses and be the contact person to the Animal Inspectorate
  • Identify and promote 3Rs initiatives
  • Ensure implementation of new experimental procedures and technologies
Qualifications
The successful candidate has experience with project and team management, a PhD degree or equivalent in a biological sciences-related discipline, and solid hands-on and theoretical expertise in rodent in vivo experiments, preferably including metabolic phenotyping techniques. In addition, we wish for the candidate to have:
  • Approved FELASA C/function ABD course or a similar course, with permission to obtain independent license from the Danish Animal Inspectorate
  • Solid knowledge within national regulations of animal experiments, ethics, and welfare
  • Solid experience in data management, calculations, statistics and data presentation
  • Strong problem solving skills, interpersonal skills and the ability to work independently
  • Proven experience in training and supervision
  • A service-minded and team player attitude
  • A structured mind-set and a pronounced organizational talent
  • Good communication skills in both written and spoken English

The place of employment is the Novo Nordisk Foundation Center for Basic Metabolic Research, Faculty of Health and Medical Sciences, University of Copenhagen. We offer creative and stimulating working conditions in a dynamic and international research environment.

Terms of salary and employment
The employment as Platform Manager, positioned as special adviser (“Specialkonsulent”), is a full time and permanent position. Employment will be in accordance with the provisions of the collective agreement between the Danish Government and AC (the Danish Confederation of Professional Associations) with a possibility to negotiate supplements due to qualifications and experience.
