The aim of the PhD project is to explore and develop new technologies and methods for realizing biocompatible and potentially biodegradable polymer-based devices for oral drug delivery. We have previously worked a lot with so-called micro-containers and will now expand into new designs and new fabrication concepts. The PhD candidate will be a part of the IDUN research group, led by Prof. Anja Boisen at DTU Department of Health Technology. IDUN is a large research group with over 40 members, that focuses on development of micro and nanotechnology based sensors, detection systems and drug delivery devices.

Research field

The PhD student will work in the area of designing and fabricating polymeric devices for drug delivery using scalable technologies.

Responsibilities and tasks

You will design, develop and fabricate new types of drug delivery devices. You will explore new fabrication technologies - mainly outside our cleanroom using e.g. embossing. You will test drug delivery device performance in collaboration with IDUN project partners. You have the ability to drive the project and achieve ambitious goals.

You will play a role in the drug delivery part of the research section, interacting with several members working in different disciplines, such as biology, microfabrication, pharmaceutical science and polymer science. The project is highly interdisciplinary and we expect that you enjoy teamwork and are good at coordinating you work with your colleagues.

Qualifications

Candidates should have a two-year master's degree (120 ECTS points) or a similar degree with an academic level equivalent to a two-year master's degree.

The ideal candidate has a background in some of the following topics: micro- and nanofabrication techniques, materials - especially polymers and polymer fabrication. Experience in drug delivery and/or in vitro models is a plus. If you have another background that fits the project, you are welcome to apply.

The scholarship for the PhD degree is subject to academic approval, and the candidate will be enrolled in one of the general degree programmes at DTU. Salary and appointment terms

The appointment will be based on the collective agreement with the Danish Confederation of Professional Associations. The allowance will be agreed upon with the relevant union. The period of employment is 3 years.
