At the Department of Biochemistry and Molecular Biology, University of Southern Denmark we are looking for a PhD student to join the lab of Assistant Professor Lin Lin, starting from 1 March 2023 (negotiable) at the earliest, for a period of three years.
The new lab will be conducting research on the understanding of the molecular cell biology of bacterial interspecies interaction, as well as host-pathogen interaction, using model organisms such as ESKAPE pathogen Acinetobacter baumannii. The PhD project is aiming to explore what and how different cellular processes are coordinated during Acinetobacter interaction with other bacteria in polymicrobial community at the molecular and single-cell level, using a combination of molecular microbiology, -omics and especially high-resolution live-cell imaging. Moreover, the project will also involve studying the spatial and temporal dynamics of interbacterial interaction.
We are looking for a candidate who has:
* A Master's degree in Biochemistry, Molecular Biology, Cell Biology or Microbiology, or expectancy to complete the Master's degree by 31 January 2023. Interdisciplinary students with a background in microbiology are also welcome to apply.
* Ideally a good experimental background in molecular microbiology. Hand-on experience with fluorescence microscopy will be a plus.
* A high intrinsic motivation and capacity for independent work. You must be open-minded to different research ideas and challenges, and bold ideas are very welcome.
* Good communication and collaborative skills and proficiency in spoken and written English. You will work and discuss closely with PI and other colleagues in the Molecular Microbiology Research Unit which is why this is important.
Deadline: 31 January 2023.
