About us
We are a multidisciplinary department of approximately 40 employees, consisting of medical doctors, nurses, epidemiologists, statisticians, biologists, and public health specialists. We undertake surveillance of and provide professional advice on infectious diseases and are part of the national preparedness team for infectious disease outbreaks.

Your work
You will work on cross-disciplinary European projects in the unit for Food- and Waterborne Diseases and Zoonoses. The projects are part of the ‘European Joint Programme on One Health’ funded by the EU; a landmark European partnership to promote and support One Health work across borders.

A large part of your work will be based within the MATRIX project. MATRIX is coordinated by Statens Serum Institut (SSI) and has collaborators from 20 institutes in 11 different European countries. The project focuses on how best to use existing One Health resources to improve the surveillance of foodborne pathogens in Europe.

Your work on MATRIX will consist of both academic and some administrative work. Further, we expect you to contribute to relevant research projects such as climate changes and zoonotic diseases and identification of important disease risk factors.

Your tasks will include:

  • Gathering knowledge on European surveillance systems for infectious diseases within the One Health spectrum (through literature reviews and personal interviews)
  • Analysis of epidemiological data
  • Communication with internal and external collaborators (including meeting participation)
  • Preparing reports and scientific publications relating to MATRIX and specific research projects
  • Participating in general surveillance tasks.
Please note that some travelling (primarily within Europe) will be required in this position.

Your education, experience and background
You have an academic profile with a background from a relevant field, with some years of research experience or similar work experience. A PhD within a relevant field will be considered an advantage, but it is not a prerequisite.

You have an interest in One Health and zoonotic diseases, experience with epidemiological data analysis and possess basic knowledge about microbiology. We expect you to have a publication record and to have experience doing literature searches. Experience working with international collaborators is a strong advantage.

As a person you are organised and structured and have a solid adherence to deadlines. You are not afraid to take initiatives and are able to work independently. You have good communication skills and are open for collaboration both internally at SSI and with our many external associates.

Basic knowledge of Danish is preferable although not a requirement.

We offer
A job in a professional and socially friendly and accommodating department with solid expertise in infectious diseases. Our department has a strong focus on the wellbeing of our employees. We are a central part of the Danish work on surveillance and prevention of infectious diseases. We adopt a flexible working schedule of 37 hours per week, including lunch break. Statens Serum Institut is located in central Copenhagen.

Terms of employment
Terms will be based on the collective agreement between the Danish Ministry of Finance and the Danish Federation of Professional Associations (AC) (overenskomst for akademikere i staten). Classification will depend your academic qualifications and experience.

The position is temporary with a contract duration of 2.5 years.

Contact us
If you have any questions, please get in touch with Senior Epidemiologist Katrin Gaardbo Kuhn phone +45 3268 8183 or Epidemiologist Uffe Christian Braae phone +45 3268 8294.

Are you interested?
Click ‘apply position’ and send us a cover letter detailing your motivation and background for applying (max one page) and CV. We expect to conduct interviews during week 47.

Staten Serum Institut and the surrounding Campus have a strict non-smoking policy.

We encourage anyone interested to apply for the position regardless of age, gender, religion, disability, and ethnic background.
