A clinical position as consultant in Paediatrics/Neonatology at the Department for Children and Adolescents (BUA) or the Department for Neonatal and Paediatric Intensive Care (GN) at Rigshospitalet is open for appointment from as soon as possible.
The position is combined with a 10-year position as clinical professor of Paediatrics at the Faculty of Health and Medical Sciences, University of Copenhagen.
With this position the Department for Children and Adolescents (BUA) or the Department for Neonatal and Paediatric Intensive Care (GN) at Copenhagen University Hospital - Rigshospitalet wishes to strengthen clinical research and teaching in collaboration with the University of Copenhagen.
It is a requirement that the applicant is accepted for appointment of both the professorship and the consultancy.

About the Department for Children and Adolescents (BUA) The Department for Children and Adolescents (BUA) is like the hospital, a large highly specialized department with approximately 6,000 admissions and 43,000 visits in the outpatient clinic per year.
The department covers hematology/oncology, liver- and gastroenterology, nephrology, rheumatology, neurology, rare diseases, cardiology, pulmonology, infectious diseases, immunology, bone marrow transplantation and palliative care.
Close collaborations in the hospital with the surgical departments, the transversal diagnostic departments and the adult departments qualify the performance as well as collaboration with the other departments for children and adolescents throughout the country are of crucial importance to provide the best treatment for all patients.
This consultancy will accommodate the wide range of paediatrics but also provide the opportunity for a special interest. The position will be composed of 50% clinical work and 50% research work.
Research and teaching With the position as consultant in Paediatrics and clinical professor of Paediatrics, the Department of Children and Adolescents (BUA) wishes to strengthen leadership in clinical research and teaching. A professorship at BUA will be an integrated part of the entire group of professors consisting of six medical doctors and one physiotherapist.
The main focus for research has throughout the years been in the field of hematology and oncology. However, research in a variety of fields is significant and growing, i.e.phase II and III studies and treatment with new types of medicine (BUA) Latest Center for Data- and Impact research has been implemented.
Qualifications Applicants must be board-certified specialist in Paediatrics (BUA).
About the Department for Neonatal and Paediatric Intensive Care (GN) The Department for Neonatal and Paediatric Intensive Care (GN) is the most highly specialized department of its kind in Denmark. There are around 1,300-1,400 admission per year, most of them from the Capital Region, but also from the rest of Denmark, incl. Greenland and the Faroe Islands.
The patients are grouped into one of seven patient groups depending on their major morbidity: Premature/ immature/ extreme immature, congenital heart diseases, neurological diseases, congenital surgical conditions, rare diseases and syndromes, other major morbidity in the postnatal period, and small children up to the age of 2 years in need for highly intensive care treatment.
The department provides ECMO (extra corporeal membrane oxygenation) treatment and hemodialysis to all children
There is a close cooperation with many diagnostic, medical, surgical, and intensive care units within Rigshospitalet as well as with the other Danish neonatal departments.
The multidisciplinary research group at the department has well established collaborations with both national and international researchers and research groups.
This consultancy will accommodate the wide range of neonatology but also provide the opportunity for a special interest. The position will be composed of 50% clinical work and 50% research work.
Research and teaching With the position as consultant in Neonatology and clinical professor of Paediatrics, the Department for Neonatal and Paediatric Intensive Care (GN) wishes to strengthen leadership in clinical research and teaching. A professorship at GN will be integrated into the existing interdisciplinary research team, with the current medical research manager and leading research nurse.
The main focus for research has throughout the years been in the field of prematurity, brain development, respiratory support, and gastrointestinal diseases. However, research in a variety of fields is significant and growing, i.e. translational research projects in close cooperation with the University of Copenhagen.
Qualifications Applicants must be board-certified specialist in Paediatrics and DPS (or similar)-approved expert in Neonatology acc. to EBN assessment framework. Also as a full consultant in neonatology, the applicant needs to be ECMO- and Transport-certified.
Conditions In order to be considered, the applicant must send an application to both the Faculty (the professorship) and to the hospital (the consultancy) cf. the simultaneously advertised position of the professorship. Appointment is conditioned by the fact that the applicant obtains both positions. This also applies to the applicants who are already employed as consultants at Rigshospitalet.
Salary and conditions of employment as consultant are as agreed between the Danish Regions and the Danish Association of Medical Specialists and between the Capital Region and University of Copenhagen.
As clinical professor at least 50 % of the working time will be allocated to academic tasks (e.g. research, teaching, evaluation tasks and communication with the public) in agreement with the Head of Department of Clinical Medicine at the University of Copenhagen.
The remaining time will be allocated for clinical work in agreement with the Head of Department of Children and Adolescents (BUA) or the Head of the Department for Neonatal and Paediatric Intensive Care (GN), respectively.
The clinical professor will receive secretarial or technical support equivalent to 50 % of a full-time secretary position from the Department for Children and Adolescents (BUA) or the Department for Neonatal and Paediatric Intensive Care (GN) at Copenhagen University Hospital - Rigshospitalet.
