The Centre for Integrative Innovation Management at the Department of Marketing & Management, University of Southern Denmark invites applications for one position as Associate Professor in Integrative Innovation Management and/or Project Management. The position is located in Odense, but teaching may be required at the campus in Slagelse. The successful candidate is expected to assume this position by December 2019 or as per negotiation.

Job description

The Centre for Integrative Innovation Management is a cross-disciplinary research group focusing on meeting the societal demands for strengthening the innovative capabilities and processes of industrial firms. We adopt a cross-disciplinary approach because understanding and promotion of innovation from the initial idea to the fully commercialized or implemented innovation requires the combination of engineering, management and marketing. For more information on the Centre please visit the Centre website.

The candidates are expected to have a research record focusing on one or more of the following strategic priorities of the Centre:

1.    Management of innovation – this program focuses on the internal drivers and barriers to successful innovation. In this program, we further have an interest in research that brings innovation management and project management together.
2.    Emerging Technologies, Business Models and Innovation Ecosystems – this program focuses on emerging technologies and their path to commercialization. In many cases, the success of a technology will depend on the company's efforts to align the business model and the innovation model so that commercial potential is best harvested. Ultimately, emerging technologies may target markets that are yet to be created.

The research strategy of the group further emphasizes the following subjects for the coming years: analysis and application of big data for innovation, commercialization of specific technologies like e.g. drones or 3D printing, project management for innovation performance, global innovation and emerging markets, and sustainability and innovation.

Successful candidates will have an international profile and a strong record of research publications preferably in globally top-ranked journals within dedicated innovation journals such as Research Policy, Journal of Product Innovation Management, Technovation, Industry and Innovation, and Creativity and Innovation Management. If the candidates have not published in these journals, they should have demonstrated a willingness to aim for them and strive to develop their research such that publication in these journals can be realized within the next few years.

Successful candidates should have a Ph. D. degree within social sciences or a cross-disciplinary PhD with a significant social science contribution. Successful candidates will primarily be engaged in teaching in the wider field of innovation management and potentially in project management and market research in the programs: Professional Master in Project and Innovation Management, the Bachelor as well as Master of Science in economics and business administration and MSc. in Product Development and Innovation.

We expect the successful candidates to actively engage in the development of the research Centre as well as contributing positively to the department as a whole. As senior scholars, candidates are expected to contribute actively to the social and academic lives at the department as well as participate in the guidance of doctoral students and junior faculty. Also, we expect active and constructive participation in the university's academic administration. To fulfill the requirements of the position, the candidates chosen are expected to be physically present at the Centre on a regular basis.

The candidates have potentially secured external research funding or has experience in the application process and has established strong ties with the international research community. The candidates are further expected to be committed to the work of participating in the implementation of the developed portfolio management tool for our externally funded projects.

Owing to the increasingly international focus of the degree programs, candidates must demonstrate ability to teach in English. If the successful candidates are not fluent in Danish, they be expected to learn Danish within a period of approximately two years.

Research within the Department is anchored in an understanding of the cooperation between markets, organizations and individuals. It encompasses a variety of areas from evolutionary models of organization to new exotic forms of consumption. It is the ambition of the Department to be in the international frontline in these areas and to seek synergy between research, teaching and knowledge dissemination. Research at the Department is organized in five research units. See the Department website for more details.
