The Department of Biomedicine, at the Faculty of Health, Aarhus University, invites applications for a position as academic technical scientist in the area of mass cytometry as per 1 November 2020 or as soon as possible thereafter. The position is connected to the implementation of a new Helios Instrument at The Department of Biomedicine. It is currently an 18 months full-time position. If the technology is established and of value for the department, a permanent position, may be developed and advertised later.

We offer a vibrant international research environment where English is the preferred language in the laboratory, at meetings and at seminars. The Department employs some 450 people and covers a range of research areas within Biomedicine. We contribute to the Bachelor’s degree programs in medicine, molecular medicine, odontology and the Master’s degree programs in biomedical engineering and medical chemistry. Our infrastructure is well developed with modern laboratories, core and animal facilities. You will work either in the brand new ‘Skou Building’ or similar as we are in the process of modernizing our old facilities. You can read more about the department here and about the faculty here.

Your job responsibilities
As an academic technical scientist your main tasks will consist of:

  • Implementation of the mass cytometry technology
    • establishment of the equipment
    • protocols for acquisition of data
    • protocols for data analysis
    • setting up standard panels
    • protocols for quality control
  • Running and maintenance of the Helios instrument
  • Analysis of data
  • Training researchers in the mass cytometry technology
  • Broadening the awareness of the technology in local research environments as well as at various department meetings
  • Developing an infrastructure for servicing research groups at Aarhus University
  • Assisting with grant-writing on technical aspects involving mass cytometry
  • Assisting with experimental design
  • Continuous expansion of mass cytometry panels and data analysis
A Helios system have recently been acquired and an expansion with the Hyperion imaging module is expected within near future.

In your daily work, you have a close interaction with competent colleagues, and will be integrated into the AU FACS Core Facility and also have close interactions with the staff in the Department Imaging Core facility.

You will report to Professor Søren Riis Paludan and FACS Core Facility manager Charlotte C Petersen.

Your competences
Preferably, you have a background with significant experience with mass cytometry technology. Secondarily, experience with flow cytometry and microscopy will be considered an advantage. Since, the interactions with users is a central part of the position, we expect applicants to be positive, interactive, and to see it as a goal to move the user’s research projects forward. Therefore, as a person, you have good interpersonal skills, are friendly and helpful and able to contribute to a good work environment.

We expect you to be fluent in oral and written English.
